À : Comité Exécutif de la FIFA et Comité sud-africain d'organisation de la Coupe du monde 2010

Les chefs traditionnels d'Afrique du Sud ont l'intention d'abattre rituellement des animaux pour bénir les stades de football pour le tournoi de la Coupe du monde 2010 qui aura lieu en Juin 2010.
 
Zolani Mkiva, président du Trust Royal Makhonya, a indiqué que le tournoi doit être béni dans le vrai "stye africain" et qu'ils vont abattre des vaches en sacrifice pour chacun des 10 stades qui vont être utilisés pour l'événement.

Les méthodes traditionnelles de sacrifice sont gravement inhumaines ! Vous pouvez voir comment cela se passe sur la vidéo au dessus

Sirs:

Animal sacrifices for the World Cup? Why not sacrifices of human newborns on blood altars, for good luck? One is no less morally and ethically repugnant and regressive than the other.

This display of raw, callousness toward non-humans who value their lives, as much as you do yours, has absolutely NO PLACE in 21st Century society. How many times must mankind use the disgustingly trite and empty excuse of "custom" and "tradition" to completely relegate his "civility" to the gutter; while performing acts of savagery on innocents to whom he should be offering his kindness and protection? Other species now have no one BUT man to rely on for their lives. Man has chosen to embody the most evil, predatory force on Earth; we have thoroughly ravaged this planet and non-humans have paid the ultimate price -- isn't that sacrifice enough? Must we appease our own bloodlust for the sake of a recreational event -- a primarily worthless, glorified, adolescent pastime -- just to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, that our myopic viciousness and brutality, are the ruling rationale of our species?

Isn't it enough that Africa's animals have suffered mass annihilation through repeated wars, poaching, famines and droughts which pushed many over the edge to extinction and left most others teetering on the brink? They have endured sufferings and burdens beyond imagination; and while the African people have had the support of their fellow tribesmen, the animals still have few to advocate on their behalf.

This planned bloodletting is an obscenity which will turn millions of viewers AWAY from the World Cup, and bring more shame upon the human species, and South Africa, in particular. I strongly urge you to forego this African tradition and substitute a non-violent, life-affirming, peaceful cultural ceremony in its place. I will NOT support this event or your economy with my tourist dollars until this proposal has been completely dropped from consideration by World Cup organizers.
