AIDEZ Wenka et les chimpanzés les plus anciens

Signez le petition* du "Project R&R" au chef temporaire des Instituts Nationales de la Santé (NIH), Raynard S. Kington, M.D., Ph.D. Le NIH est l'établissement supérieur du gouvernement qui surveille les quatre équipements fédéralement placés qui détiennent les chimpanzés connus les plus anciens dans la recherche.

Veuillez demander au Dr. Kington de libérer immédiatement Wenka et les autres chimpanzés les plus anciens dans un sanctuaire permanent de sorte qu'ils puissent apprécier leurs années, mois, ou même jours restants dans la paix et la liberté relatives du sanctuaire avant qu'ils ne meurent.

* En outre, "Project R&R" enverra une lettre au président/directeur de l'université d'Emory et de Yerkes au nom de tous les défenseurs, demandant la libération immédiate de Wenka.

Dear President and Doctor Wagner:

I write to you today to please ask that you support the liberation of Wenka, an elder chimpanzee 55 years old today, to a designated sanctuary. I also ask respectfully that you use your authority to relinquish any companions of Wenka's to the same sanctuary. It is with great sadness and equal anger that I abbreviate Wenka's life: born in the Yerkes Primate Research laboratory on May 21, 1954, stolen from and denied her mother, Wenka has been used as a test subject for a "nystagmus and fixation vision study" and later for "alcohol, oral contraceptive, aging, and cognitive studies" (Project R&R). Wenka now needs to be granted freedom from her captive life enduring pain, despondence, sorrow, and suffering.

While it is my belief that animals, physiologically different from humans, cannot be used as either logical or legitimate human substitutes, the intent of this request is for release of Wenka and her companions, and the research debate falls outside the parameters of my intent. As such, please allow me to briefly illustrate personal observations: chimpanzees are marvelously intelligent and loving creatures, forming enduring bonds and relationships; they also experience profound depression in sufferable conditions, separated from others and necessary companionship. Indeed, all animals are sentient creatures, as are humans, capable of emotion, thought, love, pain, and suffering. Humans have an obligation to provide animals respect and compassion, and because humans also have the capacity for empathy, we must allow our animal friends freedom from the imprisonment and suffering inherent in animal research.

Humans have now used Wenka for 55 years. Please afford her one small oasis of peace and comfort and allow her and her companions to live the rest of their lives free from suffering.

I know your time is limited, and I thank you for your attention and consideration.
